<Peptic ulcer is common all over the world.> <It is estimated that 5-10% of individuals in the United States suffer from peptic ulcers during their lifetime.> Peptic ulcers occur principally in the duodenum and stomach. Best estimates suggest that <in American population, about 2% of males and 1.5% of females have peptic ulcers.> The fundamental prerequisite for peptic ulceration is mucosal exposure to gastric acid and pepsin. There is a very strong association with H. pylori infection. Most peptic ulcers cause epigastric gnawing or burning pain related to meals. The pain tends to be worse at night and occurs usually 1 to 3 hours after meals. Bleeding is the result of erosion of a blood vessel by the ulcer and occurs in about 30% of patients with peptic ulcer. Perforation occurs in about 5% of peptic ulcer patients and is most common with anterior duodenal ulcers. (Secretion by H. pylori of a urease that generates free ammonia and a protease that breaks down glycoproteins in the gastric mucus.) (H. pylori also elaborate phospholipases which damage surface epithelial cells and may release bioactive leukotrienes and eicosanoids.) (Breakdown of mucosal defence is much more important than excessive acid production.) Chronic gastritis associated with H. pylori infection is a major risk factor for gastric carcinoma. Early gastric cancer restricted to the mucosa and submucosa has a 5 year survival rate of about 85%.

"All the above training sessions are compulsory. Due to the huge number of volunteers, we will put you in different working groups. You should receive your training schedule by 26 May 2010.

This is a reminder that the Games period will commence from 12th to 24th August 2010.

There is a request from SYOGOC to have a copy of your photograph, as specified in attached Annex A. For those who have not submitted, please kindly do so ASAP together with a soft copy of your photograph to shirley.khaw@efs.org.sg. Late submission of application form and required documents might be rejected by SYOGOC.

Please note that acceptance of accreditation does not guarantee your volunteer as there will be various factors (like attitude, ability & availability etc)."

hi!! As my earlier post says, the CIP event which is recyclable materials collection, will be held on the 14 november 2009 from 8.30 am to 2 pm. We are allocated 11 blocks of flats to collect recyclable items from. Me and a member of applied science studies club will be meeting all of your at blk 933 ( its near the playground opposite safra )at 8.30am as transportation will not be provided.Further information will be briefed on the CIP day itself. The attire for that day is green AS shirt, knee length shorts and covered shoes( for your SAFETY). Please bring along your water bottle and umbrella in case it rains and bring as little items with you on that day. Also, i will be giving each one of ur a consent form on monday. PLS hand in on wed which is 11 nov 2009 . For those who are unable to make it for the CIP please inform me as soon as possible and your have to find CIP to complete on your own. Lastly, those who have changed their hp no lately please inform me as well. thanks

Pls come down and support as every blood counts and we can help save lives. The requirements are that you have to be at least 45kg and above and you do not have any illness or diseases. Hi guys!

As some of you might have already known, we found an abandoned Pomeranian Cross this afternoon at Pasir Ris Farmway.

She was found on the road side with 2 bags of dog food and licking/ biting her slightly bleeding paws.

We carried her to the shelter but they couldn't afford another dog so we brought her to the Vet to get her paws checked.

Seems that there is some allergic reaction and the bleeding came from her trying to stop the itch by biting :/

She's now at Brian's house recovering :D

But we need help paying for her medical bills.

So we would really appreciate if anybody wants to donate! Maybe $10?
The remaining amount would be used to sterilise her. Cos we don't want her to breed.
SO PLEASE HELP KAY?

okay. we brianstormed for ideas and here are some that we came up with today!

okay. the one with alot of animals one is the shirt design. i came up with 2 different one because i don't know which one looks nicer. (boy chase animal or animal chase boy). the top one is the tote bag design. in case you have no idea where the leash leads to, it connects to the handle to make it look like the person carrying the tote bag is leashing the dog. cool right?

so that's about it.

Do contact me if you have any good ideas for the shirt and the bag. PLEASE! then i can come up with more designs.

Hey all, Pei Xiang here again.. i had to visit the doctor again this morning because there was no bit of improvement in my cough. My fever hasnt gone down too. I needed my aunty to drag me down from the bed because i couldnt even help myself to stand up. People, please monitor your temperature too.

Good news People! I took the medicine from the new doctor and then took a short nap. My temperature is back to normal! (5.00pm) - 36.4

Hi all.. this is Pei Xiang. This post is to update on my temperature every hour. It is definitely necassary due to the recent widespread of Influenza A H1N1. If you are feeling unwell too, please visit the doctor and stay at home until you are well. I visited the doctor at 1am midnight. Total amount chargeable was $109. (DAMN EXPENSIVE). The doctor said i am just down with Throat Infection but it is still important to monitor my own temperature. Guys, let me reiterate, this is the least we can do for the society. People who have came in close contact with me, namely Roy Cheng (drooling on you) and Yuan Xin (drank my water). Please monitor your temperature as well. Thank You very much.

Okay. From the smses i recieve after the yesterday major SMS project I concluded:

However,many of you folks still haven't tell me your prefered your designs yet as you've forgotten them. So, to refresh your memories, here they are!

The above logos are the top favourites, People who smsed me yesterday wanted the gorilla design. I happen to like it too xD( i designed it! of course i like em') Some preferred the dog one. So do sms me to cast your vote as soon as possible!

Hello everyone! As you all know we will be more or less having a class chalet. Tentatively, it will be from 16th-18th Jun. Once upon a time, i was happily surfing the web, lazing on my super comfy chair peacefully. ALAS! something disturbed me! Just want to know if the class jacket idea is agreeable with everybody. We (Germaine) conducted a casual poll today. Most of us agreed with the jacket suggestion. However we did not manage to ask all of the A9K2 people.

In Summary,
we will be doing a class jacket with an individual icon (logo) in front. Like the gorilla with the 'A9K2'09' below that i showed all of you today, just that it is a different animal for everybody.
So if you want a specific animal ( mice, bear, chicken or etc), please tell Brian so that he can make the designs in time. However, if you don't have any idea what to pick, then choose from the range of designs Brian has to offer!

BUT THEN, if you don't like this idea and has strong objections to it, please tell Brian also. ( I will keep it private). Then we will see what changes we can make to the idea.

As you all know, we need to do a hep B and tetanus vaccination by end of term. I'm suggesting that we go together as a class or VET tech as the clinic opposite school promised cheaper rates if we do so. If you all want we can ask K1 come along as well.

We had our first PIPC lab today, and zhen azot of thing happens. zike zhen you cannot read this zentence. (abit exaggerated imitation). Germaine was barred from entry by prof. z (he didn't intro) AND zen he said that getting 1.0000g on the analytical balance is impossible, but somebody proved otherwise! Titration was super boring though..
